Greece - September 3 - Mycenae
10/13/2026
On Wednesday, we went on a private tour to the ancient ruins of Mycenae (pronounce MY - can - ee) and Epidarus. The ancient ruins of Mycenae are the remains of a city built by the Mycenaeans...something like 1,000 years BEFORE the Greeks built the Acropolis. Unbelievable what they were able to do more than 3,000 years ago.
(Of course, the Egyptians built the pyramids almost 5,000 years ago - so who's counting.)
The ruins at Epidaurus were also very cool. A typical ancient Roman fort, but with a lot of Greek and Mycenaean influence. But, the coolest thing was an amazingly well preserved roman amphitheater. Apparently, they still hold performances there from time to time.
We also visited the seaside town of Nafplio. (Sidenote...it's really hard to remember how to spell Napfilo...Nafilpo...Nafplio.) We found some more artwork for the cape that was partially made with sand from the Black Sand beach on Santorini...our next stop.
