Cornwall - July 31 - Lydford Gorge & The Minack Theater

On Day #2 of our Cornwall journey, we stopped for a hike at the Lydford Gorge en route to St. Ives where we visited the Devil's Cauldron and the White Lady Waterfall. It was a great opportunity to stretch our legs along a very scenic gorge. Lots of crazy one-lane, twisting, winding roadway on the way to St. Ives, but we arrived safely at the Harbour Hotel (that's how they spell "harbor" over here) in time for a quick bite to eat before heading off to the Minack Theatre. (Yes, another British spelling.) The Minack was the highlight of our Cornwall adventure. It is an open-air theatre built right into the cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The seating is simple stone "bleachers" that are build right into the cliff with a bit of grass for "cushioning". You're allowed to bring pillows, cushions, blankets, etc. And, if you ever go - and you should absolutely do so if you ever have the opportunity - make sure that you bring warm clothes and an extra blanket or two. The temperature during the day was about 80 degrees, but it was downright chilly by the end of the show. We had an absolutely perfect evening for the show, which was a production of Dear Evan Hansen. It was put on by a very talented group of local amateurs, and it was a very interesting storyline - which I knew nothing about prior to the show. About half-way through the show, we saw a small group of dolphin jumping through the oceanic backdrop. And, toward the end of the show, we were witness to the most incredible moonrise - a full moon - slowly rising up out of the ocean. (Sorry, we weren't allowed to use cameras during the show - but if we had been allowed, I'd be able to share an incredible picture with you.)
