Northumberland - August 28 - Lindisfarne

10/12/2026

After a terrific breakfast at Lumley Castley, we packed up the car and headed to Lindisfarne/Holy Island. We had wanted to visit Lindisfarne the last time we were in this area, but it's on an island that is only accessible during low tide, i.e. the road is covered with water when the tide comes in. This time, we planned our timing accordingly and were able to visit the ruins of the Lindisfarne Priory and the Castle. When we walked into a small shop in the village, the shop-owner asked us, "How are you?" To which, I replied, "Practically perfect in every way." Without missing a beat, she responded, "There aren't many of us, are there?" We loved her! On our way back to Durham to catch our train, we stopped for lunch and some exploration in a small town called Morpeth. We found a little cafe for lunch, and per usual, started a conversation with the couple sitting next to us. They were lovely people. So lovely, in fact, that when we asked our waitress for the check, we learned that they had already paid for our bill on their way out. Wow!
