Italy - August 12 - Capri
10/12/2026
Another BEAUTIFUL day!
Another early morning ferry ride from Sorrento to Capri this time, and straight to the Blue Grotto. Our ferry ride actually ran about 40 min late, so by the time that we got to the Blue Grotto, there was already a huge line. Expectations were that it was going to be an hour wait...however...after about 15 minutes, the guy managing the line asked if there was a Party of 2 - he was trying to fill up the last boat with a group from a bus tour. Believe it or not, we were the first Party of 2 in line, so we got to skip ahead of about 60 people!!! The Blue Grotto was a truly unique experience, and definitely worth the wait.
After the Blue Grotto, we took the chair lift to the top of the island - Monte Solaro, and had a lovely lunch. A group of young ladies were clearly on a "girl's trip" at the table next to us. I thought they sounded like they were from Ireland, but Nancy thought there were Northern England, i.e. Manchester area. We eventually asked them to settle the bet...and Nancy won!
We enjoyed the artisan shops in Annacapri, and Nancy bought a really cool blue, linen dress. Then, we walked down the Phoenician Steps (more than 900 of them) back to port. We took a quick funicular ride up to the city center of Capri, with all of the hoity-toity shops, but that was just a short diversion before hopping on the ferry back to Sorrento.
That night we stood in line (45 min) for a restaurant - La Cantinaccia del Popolo - that Nancy had found on line. We chatted with a British couple in line behind us who told us that they come to Sorrento for vacation for a week every year and that they eat at this same restaurant EVERY night. After an amazing meal there...we understand why! Best lasagne I've ever had!
