Cornwall - August 2 - St. Michael's Mount & Tintagel

Our final day in Cornwall started with a trip to St. Michael's Mount, which is a castle on an island that is easily reachable by boat during high tide, and you can actually walk to it across a causeway during low tide. (See pics.) The castle wasn't huge - as castles go - but it was very well kept, and this is actually a family of five that lives in the castle, which has been overseen by their family for generations. There are also about 35 workers who live on the island, which is now owned and managed by the National Trust. Our onward journey took us to the ruins of a much grander castle - Tintagel (prounounced tin - TAJ - ell) - which is the lengendary birthplace of King Arthur. It was quite a hike from the lot down into the gully and then back up to the top of the cliff-side ruins (and then back again), and the views were spectacular. (By the way, when I grabbed that sword for the picture, I swear that I felt it wiggle a bit. I think I could have pulled it out of the stone...so maybe I am the king!) Tintagel was our last stop in Cornall before a five hour drive back to London, and then a 45 min walk back to our flat. We slept well that night. PS: I feel that I need to make a confession, which is that I am writing these posts several days after the fact primarily because...I forgot the password to my personal Website, and realized I hadn't written it down anywhere. It took me a bit to remember/figure it out, so now I'm playing catch up!
